A celebration of life service for Alma Louise Vowell will be Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee with the Rev. Josh Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. prior to the service.
Alma, 72, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 23, at University Hospital in Birmingham. Though broken hearted, we understand her pain is at ease now.
Alma, a native of Baltimore, Md., was born Nov. 17, 1947. She was an active member of Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Maryland and spent her career employed by Prince Georges County Government. After retirement, she and her husband moved down South to spend their days in Alma's dream home on Lake Wedowee. She fell in love with the lake, fellowship and food with family and friends and the way of small-town country living.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Larry Vowell; children, Chappy Vowell (Natalie), Matthew Vowell (Krystal), both of Maryland, Heidi Oxley of Delaware and Vania Milnes (Curt) of Maryland; nine grandchildren, Baylee Vowell, Chloe Vowell, Kenny Lowe, Mattalyn Vowell, Dakota Vowell, Ashli Adkins, Cierra Stack, Raegan Milnes and Jace Milnes; two great-grandchildren, Haylee Yingling and Aubree Yingling.
Alma was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Seekford; her mother and stepfather, Calvin and Sally Volk; as well as her sister, Betty Jean Spicknall.
