(ROANOKE) The funeral for Herbert B. Higgins Jr., 70, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Emery officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Springs Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. Higgins passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, at his residence.

A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Higgins was born in Anniston on Dec. 17, 1950, the son of Herbert Higgins Sr. and Dollie Bailey Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a member of Rock Springs Congregational Christian Church and worked on the line crew for Pike Power Company.

Survivors include his daughter, Emily Harmon (Chris) of Roanoke; son, Billy Higgins of Baker, Fla.; six grandchildren, JB Higgins, Magen Higgins, Shelby Higgins, Layla Higgins, Trevor Harmon and Tori Harmon; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Debra Gilmore and Janet Hughes, both of Wedowee, Karen Higgins of Woodland and Tina Whaley of Anniston; and three brothers, Eddie Todd of Wedowee, Tim Whaley of Sylacauga and Truman Higgins of Woodland. Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Higgins; and two brothers, Gary Higgins and Robert Higgins.

Pallbearers will be members of Rock Stand Volunteer Fire Department.
