(WADLEY) The funeral for Chera Langley Melton, 79, of Wadley will be Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Corinth Christian Church with the Rev. Ricky Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Mrs. Melton will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday.
Mrs. Melton died Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at her home.
A lifelong resident of Wadley, Mrs. Melton was born Nov. 6, 1941, the daughter of George Jefferson and Bernice Cofield Langley. She was a member of Corinth Christian Church and worked for the Randolph County Co-op for over 25 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Coker (Shane) of Wadley and Jodie Sweatt (Brian) of Auburn; three sons, John William Melton (Patrice) and Daniel Thomas Melton (Brandy), both of Wadley, and Adam Carl Melton (Beth) of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kaye Cooper (Mitchell) and Gaynan Craven, both of Wadley; brother, Jeff Langley (Mailey) of Wadley; and a host of nieces of nephews. Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Carl Melton; son, Richard Keith Melton; grandson, John William Melton; and sister, Joan McGill.
Pallbearers will be John Cooper, Scott Craven, Lance Raughton, Dale Knight, Matthew Knight and Mark Knight.
