Sonny was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Rock Mills to Robert Doil Pike and Vester Hammond Pike. Sonny's wife of 67 years, Dolly Jackson Pike, was by his side at their Kennesaw family home where they raised their four sons.

He also was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to The University of Alabama football and NASCAR.
