(ROANOKE) The funeral for Wyner Slay Phillips, 82, of Roanoke will be Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Jack Womack and Scott Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips passed away Friday, Aug. 27, at his residence.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Phillips was born April 4, 1939, the son of James Palmer "J.P." and Mary Will Chase Phillips. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He served in the Alabama National Guard and was the owner of Phillips Brothers Hardware. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a curator for Randolph County Historical Museum. He loved history and the antebellum period and specifically the history of Roanoke and Randolph County.

Survivors include Jane H. Phillips; children, W. Slay Phillips II of Austin, Texas, Chase Phillips Kilgore of Wadley and Julian Palmer Phillips (Brooke) of Austin; three grandchildren, Jane Morrison Kilgore (fiancŽ, Ryan Rhoades), Evelyn Marguerite Phillips and Josephine Myrl Phillips; and two sisters, Mary Ann Phillips Vann (Bernard) of Phenix City and Jane Phillips Cato (Tommy) of Roanoke. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents and brother, J. Frank Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Drew Phillips, Rich Phillips, Ryan Rhoades and Justin Cato.
