(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) The funeral for Thomas Emery "Tom" Pinkard Sr., 77, of Jacksonville, Fla., was Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 12:30 p.m. at Davenport and Harris Funeral Home Chapel in Birmingham. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
Thomas died Tuesday, July 7, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Thomas was born March 14, 1943, to Robert and Johnnie Lou Poole Pinkard in Roanoke. He was the oldest son of 10 siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Annie Robinson and Barbara Jean Pinkard. Thomas graduated from Randolph County Training School in 1962. After graduation, he moved to Warren, Ohio. In 1963, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his military tenure, he moved to Birmingham, where he graduated from Booker T. Washington Business College and then furthered his education at Lawson State Business College. Thomas began his civilian career in 1967 when he joined CSXT Railroad. After many years of service, promotions and relocating to Jacksonville, Thomas retired as a dispatcher in 2006. On Oct. 25, 1969, Thomas married Lucille Torbert and to this union four children were born. Two children, Thomas Pinkard Jr. and Timothy Allen Pinkard preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lucille; daughters, Tiffany Tomeka Murray (Arthur) and Tamera Renae Pinkard-Rosario; six grandchildren, Teino, Tytus, Tiger, Tobias, Jailynn and Arthur IV; six sisters, Margaret Hester of Atlanta, Roxie Joiner, Georgia Anne Phillips (William), Lela Brady, Juanita Wright (Lathonia) and Patsy Kirk (Donald), all of Roanoke; two brothers, Fletcher Pinkard (Catherine) and Robert Pinkard, both of Roanoke; special cousin, Gregory Poole (Sandra) of Jacksonville; nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and co-workers, who all will forever have cherished memories of Tom.
