(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) Sammy Lee Dunson of St. Petersburg, Fla. (formerly of Roanoke), died peacefully May 12, 2020.

Sammy was a strong Christian and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with his entire being. He was best known for his favorite hobby, bass fishing in the lakes near his home. Sam was a retired truck driver.

Sammy is survived by his children, Margaret Hontz Crain, Gregory Lee Dunson and Cynthia Marie Johnson, all of St. Petersburg; sister, Sara Anderson of Riverview, Fla.; brothers, Charles Dunson (Cheryl) of Cleveland, Tenn., and John Dunson (Sandy) of Inverness, Fla.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Avis Dunson of Roanoke; wife, Sherry Dunson of St. Petersburg; brother, Jim Dunson of Opelika; and sister, Lucy Ozley of Goodyear, Ariz.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
