ROCK STAND - A Roanoke man was killed on Thursday night of last week in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 431 near Rock Stand.
According to Randolph County Coroner Terry Sparks, 22-year-old Zeundre Deshae Cameron was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and overturned. He was alone in the vehicle.
The accident happened between County Road 65 and the northern end of County Road 61 at approximately 9:48 p.m.
Prior to the accident a Roanoke Police officer had observed a small, dark vehicle pass through the intersection of U.S. 431 and Highway 22 that was driving northbound at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the vehicle but could not get close enough to tell what kind of car it was or get a tag number. Around Walker's store, the officer backed off and passed the information on to Wedowee PD. Approximately two minutes later, the accident was reported. Roanoke Police Chief Adam Melton said while they feel like it was the same vehcle, they cannot be positive.
According to Randolph County E-911, Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Rock Stand Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Medical Transport, Troopers, Wedowee Police Department, Roanoke Police Department and Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department and the coroner all responded. They were in the process of setting up a landing zone for a helicopter, but that sadly had to be cancelled.
A gofundme account has been set up to assist the family with memorial and funeral expenses.
