Jill Patterson-Hicks was elected mayor of Roanoke in a runoff election held Tuesday. In the close race, Hicks defeated Kelley W. Phillips 822 votes to 790, a difference of just 32 votes. The new mayor will take office on Nov. 2.

She joins council members Tammi Holley, District 1; John Frank Houston, District 2; Bronwyn Bishop, District 3; Mike Parmer, District 4; and Kesa Johnston, District 5.

A reception for the outgoing mayor and council members will be held following the Oct. 26 meeting.
