Roanoke Police Department is seeking a suspect who robbed Small Town Bank on Main Street early Tuesday morning.
According to Chief Adam Melton, at approximately 7 a.m., as an employee was opening up the building, he was confronted by an individual with a handgun, who ordered him inside. The robber ordered the employee to access money, and he complied.
The robber fled the bank, going behind the vacant office building next door. He then crossed Main Street and went behind the old Carpet Shop building, toward Pershing Avenue, where it is believed a vehicle was waiting.
The employee notified police who were there in less than one minute.
The robber is described as wearing a blondish-red feminine wig and dark clothing and carrying a brown bag. There was a bandana over his face. His height is approximately 5-foot-8 and 140 to 150 pounds. Because the suspect was behind the employee most of the time, it's not certain whether he is black or white.
Melton thanks the witnesses who have given information, along with the State Troopers, Randolph County Sheriff's Office, other police departments and FBI for assistance.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call the RPD secret witness line at (334) 863-3066 or Melton at (334) 338-1010.
