After Governor Ivey's announcement last week that loosened restrictions on the state's Safer at Home order, all four county schools jumped on the opportunity to honor the class of 2020 and schedule graduation ceremonies for next week.
Here are the times for all four schools.
Safety of our employees and students is always first at Handley High School. The Alabama Department of Education and state government have social guidelines that must be followed which includes social distancing of 6 feet for individuals and/or 6 feet for families. Events will be planned with these things in mind. Below is a listing of events with dates and times for which they are scheduled.
Senior message with Mrs. Hendon - May 18 at 100 a.m.; Emailed to seniors.
Senior video - May 18 at 11 a.m.; Link will be provided.
Senior parade - May 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Caps and gowns will be given out during this parade with other pertinent information. Senior fees must be paid in full by Friday, May 15, at 3 p.m. There is a drop box at HHS. If you mail fees, mail them by no later than Wednesday before noon so the school can receive them by Friday. You will not receive a cap and gown if fees are owed.
Virtual capping - May 18 at 7 p.m. Link will be provided.
Commencement exercise/graduation - Wright Field May 21 at 7:30 p.m. Because of the social distancing guidelines, commencement will be for graduates and their immediate families only. Each student will be given four tickets. There will be a live stream of graduation so other members of their family may share in this special occasion.
The HHS staff regrets that because of the safety of our community and implementation of social guidelines, there will be no senior luncheon and no junior/senior prom. In the event of inclement weather May 21, plans will be amended and venue and times will change. You will be notified via email, school calling system, and the school's social media page. Thank you so much for your understanding and support for Handley High School.
