WADLEY - A local business in Wadley was robbed early Sunday morning. The suspect in the robbery was apprehended and arrested a short time later.
The following is an official news release from Wadley Police Chief Tyler Murphy:
On Sunday, Oct. 11, Wadley Police Department was dispatched to an armed robbery at Wadley Quick Stop. Officers were notified that the suspect was wearing dark clothing, a mask, and was armed with a handgun. Randolph County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and secured the area.
After a short investigation, the suspect's vehicle and suspect were located. The male suspect was identified as 23-year-old Jimmy Jenkins Jr. of Tuskegee. All stolen items along with the suspect's handgun were recovered. Jenkins was booked into Randolph County Jail where he is being held until bond is granted.
In addition to first-degree robbery, Jenkins is charged with menacing for pointing the gun at the manager of Dollar General and telling her to get back into her car.
The chief thanked Randolph County Sheriff's Department and their deputies for the quick response and to Chief Jimmy Holmes of Southern Union State Community College for his assistance in this case. Murphy said, "Great job Wadley Police and assisting agencies."
