LAKE WEDOWEE - A man was killed and his teenage daughter severely injured in a personal watercraft accident Sunday morning on Lake Wedowee.

James “Jim” McMahan, 53, died at the scene after his personal watercraft collided with the one on which his 17-year-old daughter was riding. Air Evac took the daughter to an Atlanta hospital. Her injuries resulted in the loss of her right leg.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McMahan was a former member of DeKalb County Board of Education and owned McMahan  Mortgage, where he worked as a broker.

Responders went to the Highway 48 boat ramp after the 911 call came about 9:13. In addition to Air Evac, those responding included Southern Ambulance, the Marine Police, EMA, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Troopers and the coroner. Wedowee Police Department also assisted at Tanner East Alabama

Medical Center.

This is the second fatality on Lake Wedowee this summer. On June 22, just three weeks prior, Richard Brooksher Jr., 56, of McCalla drowned while trying to pull a disabled boat ashore in the area of Flat Rock Park.
