(WEDOWEE) Wedowee Town Council unanimously passed an ordinance that prohibits the public consumption of alcohol anywhere that it is not licensed.
The new ordinance prohibits the possession, use or consumption of alcohol within city limits anywhere that it is not sold. This includes public sidewalks and roads. This also prohibits leaving a restaurant with an open drink. Alcohol is still able to be purchased within stores and restaurants that are licensed to sell.
A public hearing is scheduled to take place at the next Wedowee Town Council meeting on Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. at City Hall. This hearing is to make new decisions and plans for the rezoning of houses in preparation for the new First State Bank on the corner of Highway 48 and 431. Citizens of the town expressed their concerns at the last meeting stating that they hope to keep Wedowee attractive and inviting with the implementation of this bank. Concerns were also expressed in regard to increased traffic around this area with the relocation of the bank. Anyone is welcome to attend the next council meeting to express their concerns and/or to listen to the preparation of plans for the new bank and its surrounding areas.
Plans are in the works for Wedowee Family Fun Day which is scheduled to take place in October. This will be a fun event welcome to anyone and their families. Special entertainment such as music and bouncy houses are expected to be there. There will also be concessions and other fun activities planned. Be on the lookout for more information in the near future.
Surplus property was approved to be donated by the town of Wedowee. A 2005 Crown Vic police car will be donated to the Randolph County Sheriffs Auxiliary in appreciation for all they have done for the town.
