WELCH - A two-vehicle accident near the Randolph-Chambers county line claimed the life of a Five Points man.
According to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the accident occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. Monday on Highway 431 near the 176-mile marker, approximately five miles south of Roanoke, in Chambers County. This is near the intersection with Chambers County Road 265, north of Welch.
Killed in the accident was Miles B. Zimmerman, 80, who was driving a 2020 Ford F-250 Supercab, when it collided with a piece of rolled steel that fell onto the roadway from a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by Edmund Lamar Russell, 41, of Munford. Zimmerman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
