WEDOWEE - At a meeting held Tuesday morning instead of in the evening, Wedowee Council adopted an ordinance adjusting the court costs for municipal cases.
Mayor Tim Coe said this was at the suggestion of Judge Ben Hand. "If I'm right, the costs have not been updated in about 15 years," Coe said.
The cost increases are as follows:
- Traffic offenses - $150 for each offense
- Possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, $400 for each offense
- Misdemeanor marijuana charge, $300 for each offense

In other business, the council heard from Scott Bayliss, owner of Lake Wedowee Winery. He requested the council adopt an ordinance so that he could build a patio outside his business that would not be in violation of the state open container law. Bayliss said it would almost double his space and would give curb appeal to his business. Bayliss brought samples of ordinances from other cities and asked the council for their consideration.
Mayor Coe stated they would look at the idea and said, "I think it would be good for the town."
