WEDOWEE - Wedowee Town Council held a public hearing Sept. 3 which allowed citizens to express their concerns regarding the rezoning of homes for the construction of a new First State Bank building.
A handful of people attended and expressed their apprehensions. Citizen concerns consisted of security and wellbeing of children in nearby homes due to increased traffic, upkeep and attractiveness of the town, and preservation of trees within the area.
The committee representing First State Bank assured everyone with the following, "We would not do something that we feel like wouldn't enhance the city." The committee also expressed they would comply with all city requirements when building.
The council then went on to vote on the rezoning of the four homes within the area and approved the rezoning of all four houses from residential to business. Keep on the lookout for future news regarding the building of the new bank.
Oct. 12 will be Family Fun Day in Wedowee. Come out to celebrate Alabama's 200th birthday. Arts and Crafts on the Median in downtown Wedowee will begin at 8 a.m. and will be followed by Family Fun Day at French Park beginning at 3 p.m. with free games and inflatables, along with music by Roger and Ryan starting at 6 p.m. There will also be fireworks at 9 p.m. Proceeds from concessions will go to Wedowee Recreation Department.
