CRAGFORD - Around 5:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Clay County E-911 received a call for ambulances on in the 8000 block of Cragford Road. A vehicle had left the roadway and went down into a ravine.

Clay County Rescue Squad, Clay County Sheriff's Office, Cragford-Corinth Fire Department, Shiloh Fire Department, Ashland Police, Lineville Police and an Alabama State Trooper responded to the scene.

Lifesaver helicopters were requested but later cancelled.

Two residents of Roanoke died in the accident. They were identified as James Matthew McCard, 31, the passenger, and Joseph Ray Mitchell, 28, the driver.

The accident was investigated by the Trooper at the scene.
