A Roanoke jail inmate was transferred to Randolph County Jail after striking an officer on Tuesday night of last week.
Dispatcher reported that another inmate wanted Martez Khiree Battle removed because he was threatening to hit them with dominoes rolled up in a shirt. The officer went to the cell and told Battle he was being moved back to the holding cell. He had previously been warned that if he caused any incidents, he was going back to the holding cell.
The officer repeatedly asked Battle to get his stuff and come with him, but he refused. When the officer attempted to restrain Battle to get him to go to the cell, he hit the officer with his fist in his ribs and abdomen. The officer and a second officer both received scratches in trying first to get Battle in the cell and then to get him handcuffed to go to Randolph County Jail.
Battle, 28, of 901 Government St., is charged with second-degree assault.
