WEDOWEE - Following a public hearing last Tuesday evening, Wedowee Town Council voted to leave Crystal Cove Subdivision zoned residential.
Ron Young was the spokesman for those in favor of the change, stated, "We are trying to get the subdivision back to where it's governed by its covenants that were designed when the subdivision was built instead of having the city overrule what was already written to begin with."
Those in opposition were represented by Tommy Muse, who stated, "We want to be a good neighbor to everybody. We don't want it to turn into an RV park like on the other side of the road. We understand the covenants were put in place 50 years ago and are renewable 10 years after that."
The favoring individuals agreed that they do not want an RV Park there either. "We want it to stay a place that we are proud of."
The covenants were originally drawn in 1988. The council questioned the original zoning and whether or not the area was within the city limits. The council voted unanimously to leave the ordinance as is. This area will be an R1 zoning.
The Wedowee Christmas Parade will be Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The grand marshal is Lindsay Fincher, the second runner-up in the 2019 Miss Alabama Competition. "I look forward to a successful parade and encourage everyone to attend," says Wedowee Mayor Tim Coe.
