A traffic stop in Roanoke turned into a drug bust last Wednesday that netted almost 800 ecstasy pills and resulted in a charge of drug trafficking for the alleged offender.According to the report, Officer Bryar Crockett clocked a speeding car near Walker's Food Mart. When he approached the car, he could smell marijuana.
At first the female driver and male passenger said there was no marijuana. When Crockett informed them he was going to search the car, the passenger handed over a small amount of marijuana and said that was all there was.
Once the two stepped out of the vehicle, the man admitted there was more illegal narcotics and that he had also thrown something under the vehicle. It was a small back of what looked like ecstasy.
Crockett searched the car and was careful not to wake the baby in the backseat. At the passenger seat, the officer found a blue plastic bag inside a Burger King bag that had four more bags of the possible ecstasy.
Alex Harris, 43, of Columbus, Ga., is charged with drug trafficking and first-degree possession of marijuana.
When the bags were weighed, it came out to being more than 300 grams of ecstasy. There was a total of 790 pills in his possession and approximately 4 grams of marijuana.
