Plans are being finalized by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for a new bridge over the Tallapoosa River and adjacent train tracks in Wadley on Highway 22.

There is a public meeting concerning the new bridge scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. in the Lakeview Room on the Wadley campus of Southern Union.

According to Wadley mayor Donna McKay the old bridge will remain in use while the new bridge is constructed.

If plans progress as proposed, a bridge contractor will be awarded the job in February of 2023, with work on the new bridge beginning soon thereafter.

Further details on the proposed project will be addressed at the Thursday informational meeting.
