The long-rumored arrival of a new fast-food restaurant in Roanoke has finally been confirmed.

There has been widespread speculation for months that the empty lot at the corner of Highway 431 and Highway 22 where the old Rite-Aid building once stood would be the home of a new Guthrie's location, and that speculation was confirmed over the weekend when the owners of the franchise put up a "Coming soon" sign on the lot.

This will be the second location for owners Brian Pester and Chris Clark, who already operate a Guthrie's in Lanett.

Guthrie's is an Alabama-based restaurant with a simple menu built around fried chicken fingers, French fries and a signature dipping sauce. This will be the 22nd Alabama location for the chain that began in Haleyville in 1965 and now has stores in seven states in the Southeast and Ohio.

Pester said tentative plans for the Roanoke location include the beginning of construction by the end of January, with hopes to open some time this upcoming summer.

"We look forward to being a productive part of the Randolph County community for years to come," Pester said.
