A tree seedling giveaway will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the USDA Farm Service Center in Wedowee at 20 West Broad St.

The types of seedlings will include: redbud, crape myrtle, Southern crabapple, red maple, river birch, dogwood, red mulberry, white oak and cherry bark oak.

The Randolph County Natural Resource Planning Committee sponsors the tree giveaway with seedlings provided by the Alabama Forestry Commission.

Roanoke was named a Tree City USA for the 20th consecutive year, and Mayor Mike Fisher, Tim Jacobs and Nick Johnson accepted the award on behalf of the city. Special guests to the city council meeting on Monday, Dale Dickens and Charlie Wise, presented the award. Jacobs reminded everyone the city will plant an oak tree on Thursday at 2 p.m. at fire station #2 for the annual Arbor Day event.

Arbor Week in Alabama is Feb. 23-29.
