A rural Wadley resident held an intruder at bay early Sunday morning until he could be apprehended.

Gerald Horace Norred, 53, of 3573 County Rd. 33, Wadley, was arrested on Jan. 19 and charged with two counts of second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

According to investigator Donnie Grant, Norred allegedly broke into a house near Wadley. At that time, officers with Randolph County Sheriff's Office were tied up responding to the fatal accident on Highway 48. A resident of the house physically overcame the suspect. Then when officers with Wadley and Roanoke police departments responded, Norred allegedly came at them with a knife and had to be tased.
