LAKE WEDOWEE - Two separate personal watercraft accidents over the holiday weekend on Lake Wedowee resulted in injuries to the parties in both accidents.
The first accident occurred on Saturday afternoon. The driver, whose name was not available from ALEA, was injured in the accident. According to reports, she was riding her watercraft and hit a large wake in the water. As a result, she was thrown off and hit the water the wrong way breaking her leg and causing other injuries. She was flown to a trauma center for treatment, but the location was not available. Her condition is not known at this time.
Marine Police, Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Southern Ambulance Transport, EMA, Air Evac and Randolph County Rescue Squad responded to the Highway 48 bridge boat ramp in this accident.
The second accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. According to reports, the injured man, who was not identified by ALEA, had fallen while surfing behind a boat and was in the water when a personal watercraft that was following closely behind the boat drove over him. No details were available as to the extent of his injuries or where he was taken for treatment. Marine police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
