For the second straight year Roanoke City Council member John Frank Houston took a sizable donation of aluminum can pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. Last year on thanksgiving day, in honor of his late friend Vale Shaw Bills who passed away the day before thanksgiving in 2016, Houston took 66 five-gallon buckets full of tabs to donate.
This year he made it an even 100, adding 34 more buckets to his previous year’s donation. Each year Ronald McDonald House in Alabama recycles the tabs and the funds are used “to support the mission of RMHC of Alabama, which can include things like utility bills and supplies that our families need.”
