At last week’s meeting of Wedowee Town Council, council members unanimously approved a one time pay increase for town employees. The recommendation made by Mayor Tim Coe, came after he stated that rules for municipalities prevent the town from giving a Christmas bonus as such, so a one-time raise will be paid before Christmas.
The clerk, police chief, court magistrate and street supervisor will receive $1,000, all other full-time employees $500 and part time employees $250.
In other business the council heard a report on recent activities in the town since Halloween and all the activities were deemed as very successful. Two more activities on the calendar include the Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 7 and the New Years’s Eve Celebration and drop on December 31.
The council agreed to seek bids on tearing down a house on town property just off Highway 431 behind Brand New Look and the phone company building. Mayor Coe said there was a possibility the town could sell the property.
