Tasheka Deanna Knight, 22, of Wedowee was arrested last Wednesday and charged with third-degree escape, resisting arrest and attempt to elude law enforcement.
While responding to a call on County Road 892 in the Pine Flat community, a deputy attempted to arrest Knight because she had outstanding warrants for fourth-degree theft of property (from Weigel’s Country Corner) and failure to appear in court (DUI, third-degree criminal trespassing and harassment). According to the report, Knight resisted arrest. Once the deputy got her into the vehicle, she asked to speak with her father.
Lovie Lindaria Houston, 24, of Wedowee was standing beside Knight’s father. She opened the back door of the patrol vehicle. Knight had gotten one hand out of the cuffs and started running away. The deputy chased her down on foot. Knight again resisted arrest.
Houston is charged with obstructing governmental operations and second-degree permitting or facilitating escape. Once inside a patrol vehicle, Houston attempted to kick the window out.
On orange Rigid toolbox full of tools was reported stolen from County Road 75.
Lake Wedowee Docks reported that someone stole a blank check from the company and cashed it.
On Friday a resident reported that he received by certified mail a check for $15,420 to purchase his 2011 Ford Crown Victoria for $9,895. The “buyer” requested the victim wire $4,420 to Smarty Auto Company in California. After First State Bank wired the money to Smarty Auto, the original check was found to be fraudulent.
A Dewalt miter saw, table saw, two ladders, laminate flooring, speaker box, window air conditioner and various personal items and documents were reported stolen from Woodland Storage on Highway 48 on Saturday.
A complainant reported being bitten by a dog while walking on County Road 91 on Sunday. The dog’s owner stated that it has had all of its shots.

Joshua Matthew Brown, 27, of Woodland – first-degree theft of property and third-degree robbery. Brown is accused of forcing a friend out of their own vehicle and driving off in the 2016 Nissan Altima. – Sept. 27
Ronald Jason Hicks, 48, of Bowdon, Ga. – possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia – Sept. 27
Desaray Diane Darda, 28, of Roanoke – fourth-degree theft of property. Darda is accused of taking a package off someone’s porch. – Sept. 27
Gary Richard Bramhall, 51, of Wedowee – certain persons forbidden to possess pistol, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia – Sept. 28
Kenny Lee “Coty” Rogers Jr., 26, of Wedowee – failure to appear in court (failure to display insurance and improper headlights) – Sept. 29
Clay David Cosper, 34, of Wedowee – first-degree assault, DUI and improper lane usage – Sept. 29. Cosper turned himself in on warrants.
Seth Layton Gortney, 33, of Woodland – third-degree burglary, first-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree theft of property, first-degree theft of property, third-degree theft of property and fourth-degree theft of property – Sept. 30. Gortney was arrested on warrants in connection with the theft of a truck and cash from inside a residence on County Road 515 in August 2022 and a silver Mustang from County Road 75 in September 2022.
Kevin Joshua Gates, 40, of Graham – third-degree assault, third-degree domestic violence and unauthorized use of a vehicle – Sept. 30. Gates is accused of taking someone’s vehicle without their permission while that person was inside the courthouse reporting a physical altercation with Gates.
