Elliott Gay

(WADLEY) Graveside services for Elliott Gay, 95, of Wadley will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Wadley City Cemetery with Bro. Jack Womack and Bro. Truman Norred officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2.

Mr. Gay passed away Friday, Sept. 29, at Traylor’s Nursing Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Billy Faye Gay of Wadley; one sister, Margaret Sweatt of Wadley; and one brother, John Robert Gay (Diane) of Augusta, Ga.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Kilgore, Robby Gay, John Russell Gay, Tony Sweatt, Michael Harris, Jimmy Harris and Keith Norred. Honorary pallbearers will be Elliott Cotney and Richard Cotney.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Gay was born on Dec. 21, 1927, the son of Wiley Mitchell and Odessa Elliott Gay. He was a member of the Wadley First Baptist Church and was a United States Navy World War II veteran. Mr. Gay worked as a manager for Clegg Manufacturing. He loved fishing and always carried a buckeye in his pocket for good luck. Mr. Gay was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Catherine Kilgore; and one brother, Hubert Gay.
