Virginia D. (Smith) Madry

(VALLEY) Virginia D. (Smith) Madry, 69, died on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at Bethany House Hospice of Auburn. Mrs. Madry was a native and life long resident of Valley.

Mrs. Madry was born Jan. 4, 1954, to the parentage of the late Annias and Hattie Smith in Lee County.

She was educated at Wacoochee School, Salem, and Smiths Station High School. Virginia was united in holy matrimony to the late Walter “Cheetah” Madry.

Virginia accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Peter Methodist Church, Lee County and later united with the Community Missionary Baptist Church, Valley. She served in many capacities, including the choir ministry, pastor’s aide and the Nurses Guild.

Virginia was employed with West Point Pepperell for many years and Home Health of Valley as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

At the height of her life, she enjoyed gardening, shopping, and spending quality time with her sisters. They were “peas in a pod”.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband; son, Rodney Madry; brothers: Clifford Smith, Clettus Smith and Ananias Smith; and sisters: Georgia Mae St. George, Annie Mae Sykes, Hattie Mae Battles, Magnolia Smith, Lonnie B. Houston and Mary Catherine Smith.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Linda Smith (Anthony Nero) and Annie Stallworth (Clinton) both of Lanett; children, Betty Mae Palmer (Benjamin Peoples) of Atlanta, Jarvis Smith, Shaquitia Pruitt and Melissa Dawkins Davis (Dasmond Davis) all of Valley; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
