Skeletal remains found in Malone

Skeletal remains were discovered outside a camper in the Malone community on Sunday morning during a welfare check. According to the report from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the victim’s son reported that he had not heard from Derald Owen Copp, 57, for three weeks, since he had been discharged from the hospital.

After deputies located the remains at the address on County Road 15, Jacksonville State University Forensics were called to assist with the scene. The body is being sent for an autopsy, but foul play is not suspected.

RCSO, Wedowee Police and Southern Ambulance Transport responded to Pineywoods Drive on Aug. 24 after a report that a resident had been seen on camera with many visible injuries. The injured woman was unable to tell responders what happened to her. She was taken to Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center and then transported by helicopter to a larger hospital.

During an ambulance call on Aug. 26, the victim handed an ambulance employee his pistol for safekeeping, but the pistol turned out to have been reported stolen.

A resident of County Road 43 near Forester’s Chapel reported on Aug. 21 that someone had cut the brake lines to his truck. A knife was found lying on the ground nearby.

A resident of Highway 431 near the Cleburne County line reported on Aug. 23 that a security camera had been taken, another broken and another unplugged at her residence. An air conditioner had also been moved.

A resident of County Road 64, Woodland, reported that ammunition had been taken from his vehicle on Aug. 23.

A tractor battery was reported stolen from a tractor on County Road 105 near Saxon’s Crossroads on Aug. 27.
