Gearld Gosdin

(ROANOKE) Funeral services for Gearld Gosdin, 80, of Roanoke were held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Rider and Bro. Bill Calhoun officiating. Burial followed at Gray Hill Church of God Cemetery.

Mr. Gosdin passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, at home surrounded by his family.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dicie Carr Gosdin of Roanoke; three daughters, Dale Richardson (Tony) of Woodland, Wanda McDaniel of Roanoke and Steve McDaniel of LaGrange, Ga., and Penny Justice of Cartersville, Ga.; special son, Ed Mitchum of Woodland; six grandchildren, Katie Dye (Eric) of Woodland, Shellie Rigney (Matt) of Woodland, Justin Benefield (Gabby) of Roanoke, Paige Huey (Heath) of Woodland, Zach McDaniel (Megan) of Roanoke and Anna Robertson (Caleb) of Columbus, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; special niece and nephew, Susie Moon and Keenan Moon; three brothers, Terrell Gosdin of Standing Rock, Terry Gosdin of Roanoke and Larry Wayne Gosdin of Woodland; and caregiver, Pam Smith.

Pallbearers were Justin Benefield, Zach McDaniel, Heath Huey, Eric Dye, Caleb Robertson and Matthew Rigney. Honorary pallbearers were Gavin Wortham, Tate Dye and Dax Dye.

An Ephesus, Ga., native, Mr. Gosdin was born on June 4, 1943, the son of Clayton and Vader Craven Gosdin. He was a member of Standing Rock Assembly of God and worked at Mohawk before retiring. Mr. Gosdin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and five sisters.
