Tony V. Rowland

(ROANOKE) Tony Vernard Rowland, 68, passed away on July 6, 2023 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Tony leaves a son, Darnell Rowland; a daughter, Sheila Rowland Bonds (Marcel); two sisters, Jannice Rachel Walker (Marcellus) and Betty Rachel Walker (Fred); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony enjoyed the time he spent traveling with Darnell, playing games and long conversations with his nieces and nephews. Everybody remembers his cutting sense of humor and the stories he told about himself or others to keep people laughing. He had a great love for cooking. His Coast Guard Commander always requested his beef Wellington. Sheila and Brandi enjoyed his ribeye steaks, smothered chicken and pancakes. He worked as a chef in several of the top-rated restaurants in the Atlanta metro area. He desired to keep everyone connected by being the main point of contact for family members and friends. Throughout his extensive travels and his life Tony made numerous friends who will continue to fondly remember him.

Tony graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke in 1973. Many of his former classmates will remember Tony’s cutting sense of humor and his love of life.

He admirably served his country in the United States Coast Guard for 14 years, after which he was discharged with honor.

He will be sadly missed by one and all.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
