Alcohol a factor in accident last Wednesday

A Roanoke man was arrested and charged with DUI after his involvement in a two-car accident that sent one woman to the hospital last Wednesday afternoon.

The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 431 and Franklin Road, where the Toyota 4Runner driven by Steven Matthew Brown, 28, of Roanoke collided with a Toyota Sequoia driven by Kathie Chappell Collier, also of Roanoke.

Collier was traveling southbound on 431 toward Roanoke when Brown reportedly pulled out in front of her. Collier was taken by ambulance from the scene and treated for injuries at Tanner Medical Center in Wedowee.

As Roanoke police investigated the scene officers detected the smell of alcohol on Brown and conducted field sobriety tests. They also administered a breathalyzer test on Brown, which registered a .098 blood alcohol level, which was over the legal limit of .08. Brown was arrested and charged with DUI.

He was booked into the Randolph County Jail and later released on bond.
