A two-car accident Saturday afternoon in Roanoke took the lives of two Wadley men.
Don “Gabo” Knight, 67, and Willie O’Neal, 59, were both killed when the truck they were traveling in on 431 collided with another vehicle and overturned into the roadside ditch across from RFit.
Terrell Johnson, 46, of Roanoke, was the driver of the other vehicle and was not injured in the collision.
According to friends, Knight and O’Neal were Saturday breakfast regulars at Abanda Cafe and Bake Shop near Wadley and were in Roanoke to run errands.
Friend Manuela Hester posted photos on her Facebook page that were taken two weeks before the accident – which was also Knight’s birthday – and reminisced over Knight’s and O’Neal’s time at the Abanda Cafe just hours before the accident on Saturday.
She agreed to allow the Leader to share her comments.
“This morning they met again for breakfast and even ran some errands together while cutting up and laughing with one another in the process. Little did they/we know there were many lasts in those moments,” Hester wrote.
“Today the world lost 2 great men, men that loved their families and friends! Men that loved to sit and talk about old times and laugh and pick with one another, not knowing it would be the last,” Hester added. “Prayers and love for the families and friends. Y’all will be missed so much.”
The two were also remembered on a post on Abanda Cafe and Bake Shop’s Facebook page.
“Every Saturday morning they came,” the post read. “There was always much laughter. Sometimes more friends joined them, family, kids and grandkids. Everyone was always welcome to join the fun. They will be missed.”
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. If anyone has any information about the accident please contact investigator Chris Nelson with the Roanoke Police Department.
