Roanoke Board holds called meeting

Even though the start of school is still a couple of months away, Roanoke City School Board held a call meeting last week to take care of some personnel matters.

Approved by the board last week were:

New hires for the 2023-2024 School Year:

Melissa Ackles as PreK teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary, effective August 1.

Amy Burke as school nurse (RN) at Knight Enloe Elementary and lead nurse for Roanoke City Schools, effective August 1.

Gina Treadwell as school nurse (LPN) at Handley High School, effective August 1.

Transfers

Estefanie Pilgrim from her position as preschool auxiliary teacher to first grade teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary, effective August 1.

Brooke Cohran from her position as preschool auxiliary teacher to kindergarten teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary, effective August 1.

Resignations

Trey Fetner from his position as physical education teacher/coach at Handley Middle School, effective retroactively to May 25.

Draevan Bowman from his position as physical education teacher/coach at Handley High School, effective retroactively to May 25.

Lashay Johnson from her position as child nutrition worker at Knight Enloe, effective June 7.

Contractual

Hope Caldwell on an as needed basis for the 2023-2024 school year at $28/hour to help with the transition of the new hire for the secretary position and training. Funding will come from the general funds.

KES secretarial duties for May and June

Pay Amy Lyles $20/hour for each day worked in May and June (retroactively for May and June dates prior to this board meeting) for secretarial duties since Hope Caldwell retired at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Funding will come from general funds.

Managing Crisis Safely training stipend

Pay certified and non-certified faculty and staff (identified by school administration) who will be trained and certified in Managing Crisis Safely techniques on June 20 and 21 will receive a daily stipend of $150 (unless they choose to use a flex day in lieu of the stipend for one day of training).
