New principals in place for county schools

The 2023 school year ended only last week, but Randolph County School Board is already putting personnel in place for the coming school year. The board met in a regular meeting and a called meeting to approve personnel actions. Chief among those moves was to approve the probationary contract for new Wadley High School principal Dr. Sherry Ashe, who was hired by the board earlier this year, and to name Amy Richardson as the new principal at Rock Mills School.

In the regular board meeting, the board approved:

– Robin Matthews as a Substitute Support Personnel

– The resignation of Brian Millican, English teacher at RCHS, effective May 26, 2023.

– Curtis Barber as custodian at Wedowee Middle School effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

– Transfer of Brooke Laney from Diagnostican/SpEd Teacher at Woodland High School to Special Education Teacher at RCHS for the 2023-2024 school year.

– The transfer of Teressa Adams, ARI Reading Specialist at Woodland Elementary to ARI Reading Specialist at Wadley High School effective August 2, 2023.

– The transfer of Misty Rochester, ARI Reading Specialist at Wadley High School to ARI Reading Specialist at Woodland Elementary effectively August 2, 2023.

– Approve Ashley Raughton as elementary teacher at Woodland Elementary effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

– Recommend to approve Camryn Arrington as elementary teacher at Woodland Elementary effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

– Whitney Benefield as Health Science Teacher at RRCTC effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

– Approve Barbara Wynn as ELA Teacher at RCHS, effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

– LaRhonda Brown as PreK Auxiliary Teacher at Wadley HighSchool, effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

The transfer request of Pam Hay from teacher at Wedowee Middle School to itinerant EL teacher for the county, effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

FMLA leave for Kerry Moore from February 13, 2023 through February 20, 2023.

In other business, the board:

– Met in executive session to discuss pending litigation

– Approved a Settlement Agreement regarding pending litigation with a student, F.V., and his mother. The terms and conditions of the settlement are set forth in the settlement agreement.

– Approved the renewal for line of credit with First Bank of Alabama for an additional 12-month term. The line of credit will be signed by the Superintendent and the Chief School Financial Officer.

– Approved the policy for Extended Learning Opportunities.

– Approved to pay summer janitors for RCHS, Wadley, and Woodland High Schools at

the rate of $9 per hour for 280 hours; summer janitors for Rock Mills, RRCTC, Wedowee Elementary, Wedowee Middle, and Woodland Elementary at the rate of $9 per hour for 80 hours each.

Approved providing RRCTC, Rock Mills Jr. High, Wedowee Elementary, Wedowee

Middle, and Woodland Elementary Schools $2,500.00 each; and Wadley, RCHS and Woodland High Schools $3,800.00 for summer maintenance needs.

Approve the election of Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), for the district for the 2023-2024 school year.

Approved the following pay for the Summer Reading Program and Summer School employees:

a. Teachers for the Summer Reading Program (full day, M-Th): $300 per day

b. Support Personnel for the Summer Reading Program (full day, M-Th): $125 per day

c. Bus Drivers for the Summer Reading Program (full day, M-Th): $75.00 per day

d. Teachers for Summer School (8:00 – 12:00, M-Th): $160.00 per day

e. Support Personnel for Summer School (8:00 – 12:00, M-Th): $70.00 per day

f. Lunchroom manager $175.00/day, lunchroom worker $150.00/day. Both to be paid out of CNP funds.

In the called board meeting last week, the board approved the following actions following an executive session to discuss good name and character.

Amy Richardson as principal at Rock Mills Jr. High School, effective with the 2023-2024 school year.

Lauryn Hall as ELA teacher at RCHS effective with the 2023-2024 school year.
