Roanoke man dies in Saturday shooting, suspect arrested
The Roanoke Police Department has arrested a man and charged him with murder after a shooting on Chestnut Street Saturday night.
Thomas Watson, Jr., 62, of Roanoke was arrested and charged with murder in the death of Amman Morgan, 46, after a dispute between Morgan and another person took place at a residence on the 800 block of Chestnut Street.
Just after 9:30 Roanoke PD received a call in reference to gunshot victim. When officers arrived at the scene they found a male – later identified as Morgan – lying inside of a storage building behind a residence. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers tracked down and arrested Watson a short time later that night. He is being held in the Randolph County jail.
According to his Facebook page, Amman Morgan had just celebrated his 46th birthday on January 6. His Facebook page has received a flood of comments of support and sympathy for his family since his death.
According to Roanoke Police Chief Jonathan Caldwell, no further information will be released at this time due to the cast still being under investigation.
