Wedowee Council schedules public hearing

At last week’s Wedowee Town Council meeting, Mayor Tim Coe announced that a public hearing would be held on February 7 to hear opinions on the rezoning of property on West Broad Street. The hearing was scheduled after a recommendation from the planning commission. The property will be rezoned from B1 to B2. The request was made so the property could be purchased and the use be changed.

In other business, the council:

Approved a contract with the county for housing town inmates in the county jail. The town will pay $35 per day per inmate.

Announced an organizational meeting for a Wedowee Merchants Association on January 17 at 6 p.m. Council Member Pam Johnson said the meeting is for all businesses within the town limits and police jurisdiction.
