David Horace Parker

(WOODLAND) Funeral services for David Horace Parker, 89, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at noon at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Dukus, Bro. Dave Strain and Bro. Mike Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m.–noon before services begin.

Mr. Parker passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Berry Parker; daughters, Gail Brown, Kathy Goodman (James) and Ann Ragan of Woodland; Remona Singleton (Jimmy) of Dothan, and Debra Thrash (Bob) of Montgomery; sons, Brock Parker (Jessica) of Hueytown and Barry Somerford (Marie) of Hartford; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Charlotte Strain (Tommie) of Wedowee and Rebecca Faye Dukus (Bobby) of Woodland.

Pallbearers will be Shane Strain, Jamie Dukus, Eddie Sears, Wendell Shelton, JJ Goodman, and Jeremy Woodham.

Mr. Parker was born in LaGrange on Dec.24, 1933. He was the son of Joseph Vernon and Elva Haynes Parker. Mr. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee and served 34 years as an Alabama State Trooper. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Janett Sears Murphy and Thelma Joyce Shelton.
