Alvin T. Smith

(ROANOKE) The funeral services for Alvin T. Smith, 87, of Roanoke will be Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Keith Benefield and Bro. Ken Brooks officiating.  Burial will follow at Potash Church of God Cemetery in Roanoke.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, at his home.

A Chambers County native, Mr. Smith was born May 10, 1935, the son of James and Leona Baldwin Smith. He was a member of Potash Church of God and was self-employed in the timber business.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jewell Veal Smith; daughters, Pam Brooks (Ken) and Lisa Denney (Eugene), both of Woodland, and Dana Freeman (Walter) and Leann Lewis (Hershell), both of Roanoke; son, Neil Smith (Michelle) of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Baker and Kathy Freeman; brothers, Waymon Smith and Larry Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Calvin Smith, James Ray Smith, Clyde Smith, Emmitt Smith and Edith Steeley; and grandson, Patrick Denney.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Dustin Denney, Brandon McDaniel, Kyle Arrington, Logan Stewart, Bryant Milam, Kody Yates and Cody Towler. Timothy Mote will be an honorary pallbearer.
