Anniston woman indicted for local murder

An Anniston woman was indicted for murder by a grand jury in connection with the 2020 death of her boyfriend. Melanie Dawn Driggers, 41, was arrested July 26, following an investigation by Roanoke Police Department.

The remains of James Handley “Jimmy” Knight Jr., 63, were discovered in a burned trailer in a remote area of County Road 18 near Roanoke on Aug. 22, 2020.

The call came from another resident of County Road 18. He said Knight’s girlfriend told him Knight had burned in a trailer. Randolph County 911 had no record of any calls coming in about a fire in the area. The fire is believed to have happened between Aug. 8 and 19.

Although Driggers was indicted in Knight’s death, the arson of the trailer is still under investigation.
