County commission increases landfill fees
WEDOWEE – At Monday’s meeting of Randolph County Commission, only three commissioners were in attendance, but a unanimous vote increased fees at the county landfill.
At Thursday’s workshop meeting, it was brought up that auditors do not like the way money is collected at the landfill. Starting in September, the fee for dumping will be increased from $15 to $20. Those dumping must have the exact amount of money, and there will be no change given back to customers.
In other business, the commission:
- Approved a resolution to join the State of Alabama and other local governments as participants in the current and future opiod settlements.
- Authorized the vice-chairman and sheriff to begin the process of updating the county’s agreements for housing municipal inmates.
- Tabled a request from Sustainable Growth Communities and the county economic development authority to approve the creation of a cooperative improvement district for the Watermark on Lake Wedowee development project.
- Heard from Sheriff David Cofield there were 76 inmates in the county jail, 53 male and 23 female.
