Arson suspected in Newell house fire

NEWELL – Arson is suspected in a fire that destroyed a Newell home on Saturday evening.

According to the report from Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was reported at about 6:54 p.m. at 10815 County Rd. 82, the residence of Tiffany Lynn Pennock.

According to the report, a female suspect had been staying with the victim. The suspect wanted the victim to take her somewhere, and when Pennock told her she couldn’t take her, the suspect threatened – with a lighter in her hand – to burn the house down.

Shortly thereafter, Pennock and the other occupants realized the house was indeed on fire. It is a complete loss.

The state fire marshal was notified.
