Two drivers were fortunate on Tuesday morning in Wedowee. Both were treated and released from the hospital after what appears to have been a potentially deadly accident. Zach Smith of Little Rock, Ark., was northbound in a tractor-trailer, and Zach Steen of Anniston was southbound in a pickup truck when it appears that Steen dozed off. When the big truck tried to avoid him, it went cab first down an embankment on U.S. 431 just south of the Jeld-Wen plant. The accident occurred at about 5:52 a.m. Traffic was rerouted for several hours.
