Pedestrian killed by car in Wadley

WADLEY – A Wadley man was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on the Highway 22 bridge Monday night.

According to the report from Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:56 p.m. another driver pulled up to the on-duty officer’s vehicle in Wadley and said he thought someone got hit by a car on the bridge.

Multiple vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lane of the bridge where a white 2010 Acura had struck Patrick James Smith, 38. Smith was known to frequently walk in the Wadley area.

The driver, Kenneth Jermaine Rozier, 38, of LaFayette said he was traveling east when he hit something on his driver’s side, shattering his windshield. When he stopped, he realized it was a pedestrian. Rozier said he doesn’t know where Smith came from.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but the victim succumbed to his injuries after being placed in the ambulance.
