John ‘Wilbur’ Yawn

(ROANOKE) The funeral for John “Wilbur” Yawn, 84, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Ricky Cummings and Bro. Tyler Worthey officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday before services begin.

Mr. Yawn passed away Monday, May 16, at his home. He had been under the care of Compassus Hospice Care.

A Jeff Davis County, Ga., native, Mr. Yawn was born Oct. 4, 1937, the son of John Gideon and Ruby Idell Lewis Yawn. He was a member of Miles Chapel Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Yawn was employed by Standard Oil in 1967 and moved to Roanoke in 1981, where he became employed with Amoco Fabrics and Fibers. He retired in 2000 after 33 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife, Wynell S. Yawn of Roanoke; two daughters, Angela Kirby and Diann Yawn, both of Roanoke; son, Anthony Yawn (wife, April) of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Sherryl Holton (Andy) and Glenn Yawn (Maria), both of Douglas, Ga., and Johnny Yawn of Jesup, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Yawn was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Jimmy Yawn, Donald Yawn, Linda O’Neil and Hazel Worth.

Pallbearers will be Devin Kirby, David Yawn, John Yawn, Andrew Freeman, Wesley Freeman and Seth Cofield.
