Wedowee Marine expands operations
Wedowee Marine serves as a boat destination for Lake Wedowee and East Alabama. It currently has more than 40 employees. Incredibly, Wedowee Marine sells more than 600 boats a year to people from every state across America to other continents like Australia.
During the last year, owner Randy Morris states that Wedowee Marine was able to obtain permits from Alabama Power and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to perform various building additions for both marinas.
Wedowee Marine, located on Highway 431 north of Wedowee, saw a new 6,400-square-foot mechanical shop, courtesy dock and boat ramp to support the new shop and four HVAC units for the mechanical shop, and they reconditioned 720 square feet for a boat club and rental operations. They also constructed a new bathroom, bedroom and porch at the existing facility.
Wedowee Marine South, located on Highway 48, west of Wedowee, saw the construction of a 5-acre boat storage and parking area. Additionally, a new double ramp and engine storage buildings were built. Twenty-four individual premium storage units were built, and cosmetic improvements were made to the outside patio.
Improvements to both facilities to date are well over $1 million.
Wedowee Mayor Tim Coe, “Wedowee Marine is a community pillar. I want to thank Randy and his family personally for investing in our town. People come from all over the country to Wedowee because of the marinas.”
State Sen. Randy Price said, “As vice chairman of the Senate Tourism Committee, Lake Wedowee is a true gem. Tourism is one of the top economic drivers in our great state. The additions to Wedowee Marine will foster more growth and development for the entire region.”
