Five injured in Roanoke crash

Five people were injured – one critically – in a two-vehicle accident on Friday evening at the intersection of U.S. Highway 431 and County Road 26 in Roanoke.

According to the report from Roanoke Police Department, a 2008 Mercedes CLS driven by Kathy Ellen Mansfield, 57, of Thomaston was traveling north on U.S. 431. A 2012 Mazda CX-9, driven by Bartolon Gerardo Alexis Morales, 31, of Anniston was traveling south. The Mercedes was in the truck lane approaching the intersection when it crossed over the center line and struck the Mazda in an offset, head-on orientation.

The Mazda continued south after the impact and left the roadway, coming to a rest facing north. The Mercedes began to yaw counterclockwise and came to rest facing west in the south and northbound lanes. The point of impact was approximately 2 feet across the center line.

Air Evac transported Mansfield to an out-of-county hospital. Morales and his passengers, Luis Mejin, 21, Eric Morales, 3, and Alex Morales, 6, all of Anniston, were taken to Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance.
